It’s important for you to find out the licensing requirements that apply to your new business. In Cyprus The Council of the Community where the activity will take place are all responsible for the different licenses and certificates that apply to businesses. The Council has the discretion to impose certain conditions before providing the license and in order for the Council to provide or renew the annual license for the use and operation of business premises, the applicant must obtain, according to the use of the business premises, the appropriate certificates from other Competent Authorities (for example from the Fire Service, the Cyprus Tourism Organization, the Electrical and Mechanical Services, etc.)
Be aware of planning / building regulations regarding your premises.
When choosing a Cyprus premises, ensure that you have selected a property with the correct Use Class. If your business is likely to create excessive noise, fumes or smells, for example, it is unlikely that you will be able to do this in a property that sits next door to a residential dwelling house. It is advisable that you consult Your Local Authority Planning Department.
Be aware of the ‘Health and Safety’ issues that may affect your business.
Health and Safety.
Check your legal responsibility for health and safety of your employees and the public, particularly if food is being stored or prepared on the premises.
Fire Certificate.
Some businesses, such as hotels, and residential nursing care may require a Fire Certificate. Check with your local Fire Authority to see if a Fire Certificate is required.
The business premises (according to the nature of the business that will take place in them) are inspected by the relevant Competent Authorities in order to verify whether they fulfill certain requirements, e.g. public health and authorized through specific certificates.
